Simple, 3-ingredient, no-bake apple & honey cake pops for Rosh Hashanah! A sweet treat for the new year that both kids and adults will love.

First, let me show you how cute these little Rosh Hashanah cake pops really are. So cute!

Apple and honey cake pops on a white plate.

Adorable!

They were super easy to make. These little apple pops are really a variation on my cheat’s truffle cake pops. For Rosh Hashanah, I used a ready-made apple cake (Osem apple crumb cake) and added a little honey to create the cake pop mixture. Then I dipped them into melted white chocolate coloured with a few drops of red food colouring. Simple!

Colourful apples

I used the parve white chocolate and food colouring so that I could keep my Rosh Hashanah cake pops dairy free. However, iff you don’t mind them being dairy, you can use ready-coloured candy melts. Then it’s only 3 ingredients!

How d’ya like those apples?

My daughter Kipper thought these cake pops looked “beautiful!”. She was very keen to sink her teeth into one before I’d even finished taking the photographs. I managed to put her off long enough to snap the pics – just! Phew!

Tasty apple cake pops

Each tasty cake pop has the delicious flavour of lightly spiced, sweet apple cake, enhanced by a creamy vanilla coating. They would make a gorgeous little treat on Rosh Hashanah afternoon. You could even be served as a light dessert at the end of a big yomtov meal. Kids and adults alike love them!

Sticks – Up or down?

I made two variations – one with the apple on the top of the stick, like a flower, and another with the apple on the bottom of the stick like a toffee apple (caramel apple). The second version is easier to make – simply dip the cake pop in the red chocolate coating and then stand up on a parchment-lined baking tray. However, the first one definitely looks cuter, in my opinion. Ah, you’re grown-ups, you can decide for yourselves!

If you’re really in a hurry, you can skip the melted chocolate. Simply roll the cake balls in some red sprinkles or red sugar instead.

Making apple leaves

For the apple leaves, you can use small herb leaves like baby basil or mint leaves. Alternatively cut leaf shapes out of green paper. A small piece of cocktail stick secures them to the pops.

Not just for Rosh Hashanah!

Of course these beautiful apple cake pops would also be perfect for autumn, back-to-school, apple day, or all sorts of other occasions. Go wild!

This recipe made 14 apple & honey Rosh Hashanah cake pops, but obviously the number will vary a little depending on the size you make them. Shana Tova everybody!

Ingredients

  • 400 g ready-made apple cake
  • 2 tablespoon runny honey
  • 250 g white chocolate chips or red candy melts
  • Few drops red food colouring – if using white chocolate

You will also need

  • 14 cake pop sticks
  • cocktail sticks (optional)
  • 14 Small edible leaves or paper leaves (optional)

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  • 400 g (14 oz) ready-made apple cake, 2 tbsp runny honey
Crumble the apple cake into a mixing bowl and use a fork to break it into crumbs. Add the honey and mix well to give a moist mixture that holds together when pressed into a ball. (Depending on your cake, you may need to add a little more or less honey.)
  • Take small pieces of the mixture and roll into balls about the size of a large walnut. Place on the baking sheet.
  • Once all the mixture is rolled into balls, use the end of a cake pop stick or a toothpick (cocktail stick) to shape the top of the balls to resemble an apple. Place the cake balls into the freezer.
  • 250 g (8 ⅚ oz) white chocolate chips or red candy melts, Few drops red food colouring – if using white chocolate
Carefully melt the white chocolate over a bowl of simmering water, then stir in the food colouring until you get an acceptably red colour – see notes. (Alternatively, melt the red candy melts.)
  • 14 cake pop sticks
Dip the end of a cake pop stick into the melted chocolate, then insert into the bottom of a cake ball. Dip the cake ball into the melted chocolate to coat, then either stand on the parchment lined sheet, or insert the end of the stick into a cup of rice or ptitim to stand up while the coating sets.
  • Once all the cake pops are covered in the red chocolate coating, place in the fridge to firm up.
  • cocktail sticks (optional), 14 Small edible leaves or paper leaves (optional)
Cut the cocktail sticks into 1.5cm (approx. ⅔ inch) sections, and use these to secure the leaves onto the cake pops, if using.
  • Store the cake pops in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

NB – liquid food colouring can cause the melted chocolate to ‘seize’. If this happens, a few drops of neutral vegetable oil can help it to come back together. You may have better results using gel or powder colouring.

What a fab little idea. I bet these would be great for kids parties or even Halloween coming up instead of traditional toffee apples.
